Another day at the show…….

……..with camera this time.  There’s lots of words and photos of the show flying around blogland but here’s a couple more.

Sunday Stash No. 21

From the show……….

A gorgeous print from the very gorgeous Kirsten Doran.  Probably for Sewjourn – either a cushion for the lounge or to stretch over a canvas.  Need to stop buying things for there though and give our house here a bit of a spruce up……..  By the way, weekends for this year are filling up fast so if you are thinking about booking, please contact me soon.  (Mid-week stays are a very economical alternative and there’s more choice of availability).

Bushfires Quilting Bee

Bushfires Quilting Bee Button

Just a reminder about the Quilting Bee – if you are planning to come along on the day please email me to RSVP so we can do a little bit of planning.  Here’s the info again…………

It’s almost impossible to imagine how it must feel to face the task of rebuilding after losing your home in the Bushfires. But we are hoping to contribute in a small way by making and donating quilts for people who have lost their homes. So please come along to our Quilting Bee.  There are lots of ways you can contribute:

  • Come along for all or part of the day to sew
  • Donate fabric, batting or backings for use
  • Make any 12 inch block and send it in and we will make them up into quilts on the day
  • Make a Scrappy Log Cabin block – Emma has a good tutorial here
  • Offer to machine quilt one or two quilts for us
  • Offer to hand quilt a quilt
  • Offer to hand sew a binding or two
  • Come along to make calico bags for the quilts
  • You might have a half-done quilt top you are happy to donate to be finished off
  • Spread the word – please pass on to all of your crafty friends

We particularly need backings and offers of machine quilting or hand quilting (either on the day or afterwards) though and are happy to list down the businesses that support us so if you think of anyone you can ask please let me know.

When:  Saturday 21st March 9.30am – 4.30pm

Where:  LightHouse, Ashburton Uniting Church, 7 Ashburn Grove, Ashburton, 3147

What to bring:  Your sewing supplies, fabric, lunch.  Morning and afternoon tea provided.

Contact: Jan Joseland on 0409 964 755 or [email protected]

It would be great to see as many people come along as possible so if you are free please consider joining in…..and the bonus is not only are we helping out in some little way but it’s sure to be a really fun day!

Thankyou so much to all the people who have replied so far and to those who have so kindly donated fabric, blocks and quilt tops!!

Stitches and Craft

Had a lovely day at the show yesterday………the best part was the Incubator………it was lovely to see Nikki and Cathy, Michelle and Jenny and really nice to meet Justine, Fi , and Jodie’s mum (Jodie was off doing a workshop so didn’t see her today but DID see that dress, chair, umbrella and her gorgeous cushions and bags).

Bought this (from Fi)

and these (from Jodie)

and the latest issue…………

Saw so many other beautiful goodies like clocks and brooches from here, beautiful printed fabrics from here and here and here and here.  Apart from the Incubator girls though there wasn’t many other stalls that inspired me – except of course Amitie which always looks great and Kelani Fabrics which was divine.

Ran out of time to make any of the goodies at the Craft Bars as had to scoot back for netball training but it’s OK as I got a 2 day ticket and the girls have Curriculum Day tomorrow so we will all visit again (after going to Sewjourn to clean because this girl and her buddies are off there for the weekend – lucky things!!!)

Chainsaws and Sewing

This was the worst damage at Sewjourn from the strong winds last week………..

But…….boys will be boys and since he had a chainsaw lots of branches were cut off quite a few trees!  Still it all looks much neater and we have a well-stocked wood shed again.  Actually we did lots of gardening on the weekend and it’s starting to look good.

Did a bit of sewing too……..finished this easy quilt top…………

Which is for here………

This weeks project is to get a bit more organised for the Quilting Bee (oh, and of course spend a couple of days at Stitches and Craft!)

Sunday Stash No. 20

Pink Chocolate by Nancy Gere……..more new fabric from AQC.  Planning to make Portsmouth Pattern from Somerset Patchwork.

This one is my FAVOURITE!!!!!

For a list of this week’s other stashers pop over here.

Golden Age of Couture

A couple of weeks ago, two friends and I went to Bendigo to see The Golden Age of Couture exhibition at the Bendigo Art Gallery.  (Haven’t posted about it yet as things have been a bit crazy around here – and the computer slowed down again last month because we’d used our download limit – again!)  It runs until 22nd March and is well worth the trip to Bendigo if you are at all interested in fashion or textiles.   There are more than 100 dresses on display and most of these are on loan from the V&A……….there was quite a few that I would have liked to add to my wardrobe!!

The next week I visited the Jonhston Collection  with my mum and her friends.  Each year from November to February the house is decorated for Christmas – this year it was done by craftspeople of Bendigo and there was gorgeous bead work, quilts, felting and embroidery on show.  It was amazing!  Although this exhibition is now finished next year’s is being done by Geelong craftsters and begins on 4 November 2009.  You can also visit the house any time of the year to see all the beautiful antiques or other exhibitions.

Sunday Stash No. 19

A day late I know but last night I was recovering from 4 days of AQC.  I picked this up at AQC on the weekend – I was very controlled really considering I spent four whole days surrounded by yummy fabrics!  This is a Japanese fabric called Komachi and I bought it from Be Be Bold the gorgeous stall with lovely ladies opposite us……..I couldn’t look at all their goodies all weekend and not buy a few things……………

Also got to meet Jodie who was helping on Emma’s stall – can’t wait to see her new project!!!
