Day out in Brunswick

A couple of  weeks ago Bron and I had a nice day out in Brunswick – visiting Nikki and GJ fabrics.  And we both managed to come away with quite a few goodies.  I particuarly wanted the Lap Top Bag pattern but as it fits into the ‘advanced bag’ category I bought a simpler one to start with.  (I’ve made bags before but Nikki’s patterns are so much more comprehensive and the end result is so much more professional – well hers are anyway!)  And whilst I was at it I picked up a couple of purse patterns too.  So stay tuned for some new bags and purses…….

Quilting Bee

As we had some fabric and blocks left over from the Bushfires Quilting Bee and because we all had so much fun on our Quilting Bee days we decided to get together a few times a year to make quilts for different charities.  Additionally Victorian Textiles kindly donated another roll of batting for us to use.  So I’d promised to organise another get-together for October but time has gotten away and October is here!

So……it’s short notice but there are a few of us getting together on Saturday 10th October (yep that’s right THIS Saturday!) from 12 noon to 5pm at Ashburton Uniting Church, 7 Ashburn Grove, Ashburton 3147.  Our aim is to complete a quilt top (or two if there are lots of people able to come along) in the afternoon and being October we are making it for a local Mum recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

Anyone who would like to join us is most welcome – just drop me an email so I know to expect you.  And there will even be yummy afternoon tea…………

Operation Christmas Child

We’re into October so like it or not Christmas is just around the corner.  Lots of bloggers have been talking about having a handmade Christmas or a non-corporate Christmas but here’s a another way to give to a worthwhile cause at Christmas time. Operation Christmas Child involves packing a shoe box full of gifts which are shipped to children in need overseas – often these are the only gifts the child will receive all year!  The link gives suggestions of what to pack – simple things like pencils, paper, t-shirts, hats, tennis balls, soap or stickers.  It’s amazing what you can fit into a shoe box.  Our family has packed a couple of boxes each year for a few years now and the girls really enjoy doing it.  Boxes need to be dropped off to collection points by the end of October.  So if you are looking for another way to share the joy of Christmas to those that really need it please take the time to have a look.

Sunday Stash No. 45

This one is destined for our dining chairs.

And these are for coordinating cushions for the couches.

Break in transmission…

Oh dear, only three days into Blogtoberfest and I miss a day!  It wasn’t for lack of trying though – just couldn’t get internet access at all in Lancefield!!!  So two posts today (plus this little one!) to make up for it…..

…..time for relaxing and reading Harry Potter

……for doing some sewing

…..and for Blogtoberfest…….let the fun begin.  (PS There’s a list of players here)

Blogtoberfest starts tomorrow so that means I’m saying my words and getting my thoughts together and working on projects to show and wondering when I will fit in reading everyone’s posts (and doing my own)!  Last year was lots of fun and really go me into the swing of blogging – that’s when I reached 100 posts.  And there was lots of giveaways, as I’m sure there will be this year also… planning one myself so keep coming to visit regularly.   The very creative Tinniegirl is in the driver’s seat so visit her for more details. Enjoy!
